Dr. Joseph Kay – Medical Director
The clinic’s Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Kay, is a NOAA-UHMS-certified Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Physician (DMAC Level 2). Translated, that’s a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society-certified Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Physician (Diving Medical Advisory Committee Level 2) – superlative qualifications for a Medical Director of a hyperbaric clinic.
He obtained his medical degree from McGill University and his special training residency in Anesthesiology from the University of Toronto. He is also affiliated with McMaster University as an Assistant Clinical Professor.
Joe provides commercial and recreational diver medical exams and can issue Diver Certification Board of Canada (DCBC) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) medical certificates for occupational divers. He also treats diver-related injuries, such as decompression sickness. As a Transport Canada Marine Medical Examiner, which he has been since 2017, he provides marine medical exams for commercial ship workers and mariners.
He met Daniel in 2016, while they were working together at another hyperbaric facility, and later he discovered that Daniel wanted to open up a hyperbaric facility with Deane. He then told them about availability in the North Oakville Medical building.
Joe gives presentations on hyperbaric medicine and supervises other hyperbaric physicians. He is particularly good with patients. From the beginning, he was destined to be the clinic’s Medical Director.
